Disney Princess is a franchise created by The Walt Disney Company that features a group of fictional female characters who have appeared in Disney animated films. The Disney Princess or Princess Line franchise has become a popular and recognizable brand worldwide. The franchise includes characters from classic Disney films like Snow White, Cinderella, Jasmine as well as more recent additions such as Moana. These characters (disney princesses) are typically depicted as young, beautiful and courageous heroines who face various challenges and embark on exciting adventures. The Disney Princess brand encompasses not only movies but also merchandise, theme park attractions, books, and other media tie-ins.
The official canon of Disney Princesses consists of the female protagonists, most of whom have royal ties within their fictional universes, from twelve selected Disney films. They were given an official number in the franchise line-up based on the chronological order in which their films were released, starting with Snow White as the first and original Disney Princess, with Cinderella being the second, followed by Aurora and so on.
